Morris Mini 1000

Restoration of Morris Mini 1000

The background of the restoration: Some years ago I bought this Mini in order to build it to a racing car in Mini 1000 class. My son Markus competed at that time mainly in local ralley-cross.
But after having thought more I decided to restore this car to a historic car ( to get the certification of the historic car) We all know that the ordinary Mini looks quite simple and that´s why I wanted to make something special of the car. After having talked to the motor vehicle inspectors of the historic cars ( ? ) I decided to restore this car with all the tuning parts which belonged to Mini 1000 in 1971. I also painted the car according to model I saw on a video which was made in memory of the 1.000.000.th Mini.

The quality of the picture is not the best one. The picture has been taken just before the motor vehicle inspection of the historic car in October 1997.

The registration number: MAE-71

The colour: Green Mallard

The restoring work:
The body: I sanded down the body to a " clean sheet metal " both inside and outside.
I fixed all the rust damages.
Mainly I used the tin, not the plastic body filler, in the body.
I painted the car myself, first time in my life.

I reformed the whole technology, the engine, the gearbox, the suspension, the brakes, the electrical components and so on. All the pars which were worn, were reformed ( including all the bolts).
